A piece of newspaper is tacked onto Novak's bulletin board.
Lizardman Slaughtered in Broad Daylight
Yesterday, at approximiately 3:30 PM, a crowd was gathering at around 82nd Str. Most people passed it, ignoring it and shrugging it off as a city stunt, a street performer, or various other popular attractions. Those who were curious enough to wriggle their way through the circle would see the scene was far more horrifying.
The 28th Amendment, Mutant Civil Rights, has just been recently passed, and it's clear that attitudes of hatred still remain. Nothing could be clearer then six men kicking a lizardman as he whined and pleaded for them to stop, bleeding from between his scales. It is unclear who the mutant was, though his identity is still being searched for by a large group of individuals. It is doubtful, however, that his ravaged and mutilated face will help separate him from the scores of missing mutants due to torture and death by "butchers" - doctors who use and try Mengele-like techniques on mutants.
It is unclear why the unnamed reptile was beaten. Supporters of Mutant Rights are calling for Hate Crime laws and tougher punishment to be given to those committing atrocities against mutants for them simply not being human.
The leader of the Mutant Rights Movement, and leader of the Mutant section of the ASPCA Nicole Kerrin-Magnus, could not be reached for comment.
The article goes on.
Novak had read it a few times, and received a phone call from Z about it. He was there.
"I couldn't have stopped it!" Z had tried to explain. "I barely knew him, and they just would have killed me too!"
"You could have fucking tried!" Novak had roared back. "Just let a whole bunch of fucking humans kill a lizard for no fucking reason? You shit! You're no better then I am, abandoning some poor reptile to a crowd of shitheads!"
